Kumar Jangid: Early Life & Family Details
Lokesh's grandfather and parents originally
lived in a village in Nagaur district of Rajasthan. For livelihood, grandfather
Madanlalji Jangid migrated to Maharashtra in 1952 and his family migrated to
Maharashtra in 1986 when Lokesh was just four months old. His grandfather and
father were carpenters by profession. Grandfather Madanlalji used to go to
hamlets in Jintur taluka in Parbhani district in Maharashtra to make wooden
doors, wooden ceilings, other furniture. He used to stay in the house where he
worked and sleep at night in the cattle shed.
Lokesh's father Late Ramchandra was
contributing to the family work but he unfortunately died in an accident in
1993 and the Jangid family faced a great crisis. Lokesh was seven years old at
that time. After that, Lokesh and his siblings were brought up by their
grandfather and uncle.
By dint of his hardwork, his grandfather
then settled in the district headquarters Parbhani and started his own saw mill
there. There, Lokesh's uncle Ashok Kumar and his younger brother run a plywood
business today.

Lokesh studied till 10th at Modern Model English School, Parbhani and
did his 11th and 12th
at Bal Vidya Mandir Junior College. Lokesh imbibed the habit of reading
newspapers from his grandfather in his childhood. As an English medium student in the first
grade, when he was learning Barakahdi, Lokesh used to read Marathi and Hindi
newspapers voraciously because his grandfather had already taught him Hindi and
Marathi Barakhadi at home.
Lokesh used to be good at academics and
extra-curricular activities right from his school life. He stood third in Maharashtra in the state level science fair
in class nine and represented the state at the national level twice in science
fairs. Also, he used to actively participate in essay competition and oratory
competition. On the birthday and death anniversaries of national heroes and
great leaders, he used to deliver speeches in every program in the school.
Overall, the foundation was laid in the school life itself. While studying
engineering, too, he used to actively participate in studies and other cultural
events. He was active in Social Service
Club. Many programs such as literacy campaign, rural technology were carried
out in the village.

He gives all the credit to his grandfather
who is his inspiration. Lokesh's grandfather knew the future and used to read
newspapers from his youth despite being a carpenter working on daily wages to
begin with. From the first election to
the Parliament since 1952 till date, he has followed the political affairs of
all the states. When Lokesh was in sixth standard, one day, his Grandfather
said, 'Lokesh, go to the railway station and bring India Today magazine.'
Lokesh went on a bicycle and brought a magazine and read it to his grandfather.
This is how he started following current
affairs and politics. He used to watch news, debates of Rajya Sabha and Lok
Sabha on television with his grandfather. Grandfather also insisted on
discussing these topics with him.
Grandpa used to pay for newspapers and India Today magazine to be
brought from Parbhani railway station and read from them.

Kumar Jangid: Preparing for UPSC Exam
In the library, he regularly read two
magazines, Yojana of the Government of India and Kurukshetra, so the
preparation for UPSC had started He was placed in Tata Consultancy Services
(TCS) when he was in his third year of engineering. But after completing
engineering in 2008, he went to Delhi to prepare for UPSC without joining the
job.

Lokesh's education. 'Don't you worry. Prepare for UPSC, I am with you',
supported him and never let him feel the absence of his father.

Lokesh got All India Rank 910 in UPSC first
attempt in 2009. He got a posting in Lakshadweep islands under DANICS (Delhi,
Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands Civil Service).

Kumar Jangid: Continuing His Dream of Achieving IAS Officer Rank
He continued his UPSC preparation by
working in the remote island of Lakshadweep. In his second and third attempts,
he couldn’t make it. By the time the fourth attempt was underway, the pattern
of the civil services exam had changed. In Lakshadweep, newspapers came only
once in a fortnight but internet facility was available. So without any
coaching, test series or new material, he continued the preparation by using
the facilities available online and went to Delhi only to write the UPSC main
exam. Prepared for interview at Lakshadweep and secured 68th rank in country in
CSE 2014.

Kumar Jangid: Journey as an IAS Officer
Got MP cadre in the IAS and after one-year
training at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie
got his first posting as Assistant Collector at Sehore in Madhya Pradesh.
He was then posted as Assistant Secretary
in the State Ministry of Panchayat Raj, Govt of India, for three months to
familiarise himself with the policy processes of the Government of India. In
2016, he was appointed as SDM in Vijaypur tehsil of Sheopur district of Madhya
Pradesh and started working for the people.
After that he was posted as CEO in Zilla Parishad in Harda
district. And post that, he was
appointed as Additional Mission Director at State Shiksha Kendra in Bhopal for
some time. There, books were converted into their language for tribal students
under a national policy. Presently he is transferred as Additional Collector in
Badwani district and there too he immediately took responsibility as Nodal
Officer for Corona control.

Kumar Jangid: Serving People Remarkably, Earning Praises & Awards for His
Work
When Lokesh was an Assistant Collector at
Sehore in Madhya Pradesh, primitive tribal group Saharia tribe was predominant
in the region. Lokesh noticed that mainly the education system, health system
and management of government buildings were very poor. He laid emphasis on
improving the quality of education, providing basic facilities in the
healthcare and maintenance and beautification of government buildings. In order
to improve the educational quality of primary school students, a very extensive
initiative 'Padho Vijaypur' was implemented with the 'Pratham' organization,
which directly benefited thousands of students and those students started
reading the texts and teachers also became more involved in teaching. After the
success of Lokesh's project, the Madhya Pradesh government named this experiment
'Dakshata Unnayan' and implemented this initiative in 51 districts of the
state. To improve the basic infra in the healthcare facility CHC, twelve and a
half lakh rupees was raised through the Rogi Kalyan Samiti and basic facilities
including sanitation, dyeing, beds and materials were provided. Old ponds in
that district were renovated, silt was removed and water levels in many ponds
were raised.
When he was the CEO in Zilla Parishad in
Harda district, he carried out remarkable work of water conservation, mainly
under NREGA. Roof water harvesting was done on a large scale in government
schools, panchayat samiti in the district, due to which the water level
increased there. Lokesh received an award from the Union Ministry of Jal
Shakti, Government of India for his performance in Harda's Swachh Bharat
Mission.
As Additional Collector in Badwani
district, he tackled the Corona crisis at the earliest by working for
availability of oxygen, setting up oxygen plant, conversion of private
hospitals into covid centers, free treatment of patients under Ayushman Bharat
Yojana. Barwani was the first district in the state where the positivity rate
came down from 40% to 0.5% and the number of patients came down to single
digit.

Many videos have gone viral on social media
regarding Lokesh's feelings for people and his efforts to work. In 'Padho
Vijaypur', Lokesh went to the village of Bagcha in Sheopur and interacted with
the students from classes 1 to 5 and got first-hand information on their
literacy and reading skills. Then he decided to organize a fifty-day training
program on basic reading and mathematics. In discussion with CEO of 'Pratham'
Dr. Rukmini Banerjee, 300 schools, 900 teachers and 23000 students were trained
under 'CaMAL' programme. As a result, children's attendance at school
increased, teachers became more interested in teaching, and students' learning
levels improved. Another such video went
viral in Badwani district. An IAS officer on a bike reached a place where
tribal villages had no roads and where no one had reached till date. He interacted with people about water,
ration, medical facilities and made people aware about corona vaccine. Also, he
counselled officials in the district who faced depression during Corona.

Lokesh works out for an hour every morning
and walks in the evening to maintain physical and mental wellbeing. Lokesh
likes traveling. He is also fond of Urdu poetry and listens to ghazals. He
likes to read non-fiction whenever time permits.
